Gemma Davies explains her story joining the team and how she enjoys working in the construction industry.
Please can you tell us your job title and sum up the role in one sentence?
I’m the Key Account Manager, covering the South.
Why or how did you get into the construction industry?
I fell into this industry by chance after I moved to the south from my home town in Leicester. I came from a completely different industry and started as Admin on a hire desk in Hatfield, I haven’t looked back since.
Who inspires you? (Is there anyone in the construction industry?)
Mr Neal Lambert our very own Technical Director, for his wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm to share that knowledge, and his passion to do the right thing for the future of this industry.
What has been the most surprising part of being a woman working in construction?
How successful you can be if you want to in what is a male dominated industry.
What is your favourite part of your career?
Getting to meet and work with so many great people, customers and colleagues.
What is your most memorable moment working in construction?
There have been so many memorable moments for different reasons, but I would have to say my first customer meeting since starting as an external and walking out with a win.
What is the biggest challenge of being a woman working in construction?
Getting PPE to fit 😊
What advice would you give to women looking to step into the industry?
Go for it, the industry needs you, you have so much to give.
Why are you proud to lead the way for women in construction?
Because it’s a great industry for anyone to be a part of and I’m proud to represent and show that women have a place here.
