Please can you tell us your job title and sum up the role in one sentence?
Category Manager for the Hire side, my role is to be the commercial support for all things Hire.
Why or how did you get into the construction industry?
I was interested in construction as it was a completely different industry to what I have worked in previously, (Clothing retail and Pharmaceuticals).
What is your favourite part of your career?
I’m really happy in my current role. It’s a mix of procurement and project management and allows me to have a broad remit and make a difference to the Hire business.
What is your most memorable moment working in construction?
During my first week in role, I attended No Dig and got to see the sheer size of the kit! I love working with product, in all its forms and attending was great way to understand what I would be working with.
What advice would you give to women looking to step into the industry?
My advice would be to follow your instincts and go after the opportunities which excite you. The construction industry is vast and with this comes a range of job roles to suit everyone.
What has been the most surprising part of being a woman working in construction?
How many other women I’d be working with. I expected the industry to be quite male dominated, and it is but this varies team by team which, is what I’ve found through my whole career.
