Weaver Park

Attenuation on a grand scale

One of our Key Account customers approached Burdens for a bespoke water storage solution for a site at Weaver Park in Hartford, Cheshire.  The total water storage capacity required for the project was on a grand scale – 3765m3 to be precise!  Burdens’ technical team obtained the drawings and engaged our supplier to help offer a unique solution.

The advantages of installing a bespoke concrete water storage system were ideal for this application.  The large-scale excavation needed for other options was reduced significantly for the concrete tank, meaning a smaller dig and a reduced muck-away requirement.  The tank could also be backfilled using the as-dug material, meaning no imported aggregate or stone to support the tank.  Whilst the cost and labour benefits were attractive, the social, environmental and safety benefits from a reduction in vehicular movements were significant.

The bespoke tank supplied by Burdens is one of the largest of its type to be installed in the UK to date.

Key benefits and features include:

  • Low carbon solution (typically 66% GGBS)
  • Flexible bespoke solution for most applications
  • Fast installation
  • High void ratio at circa 95%, minimising excavation
  • Expensive backfill not required by utilising excavated materials
  • Small installation crew
  • Suitable for under car parks and vehicular loadings
  • Watertight to BS8007
  • 100 years + design life to EC 2
  • Floatation resistant
  • No site applied sealants or grouting required
