Diffutherm Woodfibre Boards
Diffutherm woodfibre board systems from Natural Building Technologies (NBT) Ltd have been specified for inclusion in an innovative, eco-friendly development by St Piran Homes in Camborne. Homes within the Godolphin View development incorporate a host of renewable and energy saving technologies, in addition to the natural woodfibre boards, which are finished with a lime based render.
The homes have been constructed from sustainably sourced timber frame and positioned to maximise natural light and passive solar gain, with all living spaces facing south west. To avoid overheating during the summer months, a ‘sunspace’ roof overhangs each property to provide shading to the windows.
The houses feature heat recovery ventilation systems which supply fresh filtered air which is warmed in a heat exchanger with around 90% heat recovery efficiency. This, in addition to the inclusion of the external woodfibre boards, which enable the building to ‘breathe’, vastly reduces any risk to the building fabric.
The high levels of ‘breathability’ of the building envelope can contribute to creating a healthier internal environment for occupants through the prevention of moulds and condensation. The woodfibre boards also offer excellent acoustic insulation and work to reinforce a building’s environmental credentials. The woodfibre boards comprise 95% recycled waste timber material and are BREEAM A rated.
Barry Bailey, Managing Director of St Piran Homes, said: “We are committed to building high quality, affordable and sustainable homes in Cornwall. All of our homes are designed to complement the local environment while offering the highest levels of comfort and style. We specify sustainable building products wherever possible, as demonstrated by the inclusion of the lime rendered Diffutherm woodfibre board systems from NBT.”
